VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT- Protection Officer

ActionAid is an anti-poverty agency that prioritises work with people living in poverty and exclusion, promoting values and commitment in civil society, institutions and Governments with the aim of achieving structural changes in order to eradicate injustices and poverty in the world. ActionAid Nigeria is an affiliate of ActionAid International, an International Non-Governmental organisation registered in The Netherlands with its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. ActionAid International works in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

ActionAid Nigeria is inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the following positions within the organisation:

Protection Officer (Bade/Damaturu – Yobe x 7)

The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing protection strategies and interventions, identifying and addressing protection needs, and coordinating with various communities and other stakeholders under the M&A project.

Person Specifications

Education/Qualifications

• First degree in social work, psychology or related field is essential.
• Membership of relevant professional bodies and agencies is desirable.

Experience

• At least three (3) years’ post NYSC experience in protection programming, case management, or a related field preferably in a humanitarian or development context is essential.
• Experience in providing psychosocial support and case management services is essential.
• Strong knowledge of protection principles, policies, and practices is essential.
• Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools is essential.
• Related experience on WFP-funded project is desirable.

1. Understanding of protection laws and human rights standards.
2. Excellent knowledge on protection principles.
3. Excellent strategic planning skills.
4. Strong organizational and report - writing skills.
5. Ability to produce reports and high-level conflict analysis.
6. Excellent planning and prioritization skills.
7. Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
