Humanitarian Development and Peace Practitioners Academy
What:
ActionAid Nigeria, in partnership with the American University of Nigeria, Nasarawa State University, and University of Maiduguri together, with various stakeholders, is proud to announce the first graduation ceremony of the Humanitarian, Development, and Peace (HDP) Nexus Practitioners Academy. The Academy is a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering interdisciplinary skills and strategies in humanitarianism, sustainable development, and peacebuilding.
The graduates, selected from a diverse cohort of professionals across sectors, have undergone training designed to build capacity for addressing the complex challenges posed by crises and conflict in Nigeria and beyond. This milestone reflects ActionAid’s commitment to nurturing innovative approaches to humanitarian response, sustainable development, and peace efforts.
Who:
This event will feature dignitaries from Nigerian academia, Humanitarian, development and peace actors, government officials, civil societies, and professional graduates from various spheres.
Why:
The Humanitarian-Peace-Development (HDP) Nexus, also known as "the New Ways of Working," introduced after the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit, is continuously evolving due to a lack of understanding of its benefits and utilisation. The disjointed nature of humanitarian relief, development assistance, and peacekeeping/peacebuilding poses challenges for implementing the Nexus effectively. To address these challenges, ActionAid Nigeria, in collaboration with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), American University of Nigeria (AUN), and Nasarawa State University, has established the HDP Practitioners Academy Campus to provide training and capacity building for HDP practitioners and communities.
Media representatives are invited to attend and cover this event that marks the intersection of education, humanitarian practice, and development nexus.
