ActionAid Nigeria is inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the Programme Advisor, ECOWAS & SPAC-West Africa Project position within the organisation:

Programme Advisor, ECOWAS & SPAC-West Africa, Nigeria Project - Abuja  

The post holder will manage and provide strategic leadership for ECOWAS and the Strategic Partnerships for Agroecology and Climate Justice in West Africa (SPAC-West Africa), Nigeria Project. S/he will also support the Food & Agriculture programme of ActionAid Nigeria working to deliver on the core objectives as outlined in the Country Strategy Paper (CSP) as well as support fundraising initiatives for the programme.  

Person Specifications

Education/Qualifications

  • First degree in social sciences, arts or humanities is essential.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field is desirable.
  • Membership of relevant professional Institute is desirable.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years’ experience, 3 of which should be in a similar position in the development sector is essential.
  • Experience in agroecology and agricultural extension services is essential.
  • Experience in campaigning and advocacy engagement with government agencies is essential.
  • Experience in analyzing global development issues including climate change, food security and corporate abuse is essential.
  • Strategic relationship building, fundraising and resource mobilization experience is essential.
  • Experience working as an agricultural extension agent is desirable
  • Experience working with smallholder women farmers is desirable.
  • Experience in facilitation of networks and coalition building is desirable.
  • Experience working with communities is desirable
  • Ability to speak French is essential and Portuguese is desirable

Skill/Abilities

  • Strong communication and writing skills in French and English. 
  • Knowledge of structures of government agencies 
  • Ability to provide practical solutions within set deadlines.
  • Multi-tasking skills and Negotiation skills
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Excellent (proven) interpersonal skills
