ActionAid Nigeria conducted a research on the State of the Nigerian State to assess the current state of development in the country. The research, which is a comparative study on the situation of governance in Nigeria, seeks to:

  • Provide support for the development of knowledge resources required for the emergence of a new democratic state, focused on development.
  • Explore and analyze the State in its roles towards establishing the basis for ensuring rights, justice, equity and freedom.
  • Explore the State from the perspective of the poor, analyzing, understanding and building peoples’ issues and alternatives.

 Some of the key issues addressed in the research include citizen’s participation, the poor and the State, the state and the international sphere, the rule of law, social justice, women’s right, social quality, the dignity of labour, institutional stability and efficiency, transparency, accountability, democratic practices and leadership.
