End of Project Report- Promoting the rights of women, children and young people through knowledge building and community organizing

ActionAid Nigeria with funding support from European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) Country-Based Support Scheme of the EC Delegation to Nigeria implemented a two year project (2014-2015) titled “Promoting the rights of women, children and young people through knowledge building and community organizing”.

The project was aimed at contributing towards the respect and protection of the rights of women, children and young people as enshrined in the country’s laws and international instruments for human rights. This is especially as contained in the provisions of the Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Child Rights Act (CRA).

The project was located in 4 communities of Osara and Osara Gada in Kogi State and Ediene Attai and Minyak Ntak in Akwa Ibom State. Targeting women, children and young people and their teachers, male champions, traditional and religious leaders, members of staff of CSOs, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Nigerian Police Force, State Assemblies in the project states.

The project resulted in increase in number of women who are empowered and demanding their rights from various duty bearers in the communities and governments; a critical mass of males who are championing the cause of women, children and young person; improved knowledge of children and young people on their rights, and more organised CSOs taking collective actions to improve the rights of women, children and young people.
