Change is possible,

and it comes from the

power in people

Who we are

ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. We prioritise works with the poor and excluded, promoting values and commitment in civil society, institutions and governments with the aim of achieving structural changes to eradicate injustices and poverty in the world. ActionAid Nigeria is a member of ActionAid global federation. We maintain a strong relationship of interdependence and mutual accountability within the international federation while ensuring a strong balance between self-rule and shared-rule. Registered in Nigeria in 1999 as a Country Programme of ActionAid International, we have transformed into an autonomous national organisation with a strong national governance structure – a Board and a General Assembly - consisting of reputable Nigerians providing strategic oversight.

Local Rights Programme (LRP) is an ActionAid Nigeria funded program that started in Ebonyi State in the year 2005 with Agape foundation as the first partner organization. Until 2012, Participatory Development Alternatives was a co-implementing partner of LRP in Ebonyi State. By 2012, ActionAid Nigeria signed a memorandum of understanding with PDA to take over from Agape Foundation as the main implementing partner organization of LRP in Ebonyi State. PDA has handled this project judiciously and with due diligence from 2012 till date.
Since inception till date, the program has reached 14,400+ beneficiaries including 7,700 women/girls, 4,400 children, 2,200 men/boys, 100 persons living with disability in 11 communities such as Agba-Ameta, Amikpo, Amuro, Oshiri, Agbaja, Obegu-odada, Ephuenyim, Ovuoba, Edda, Okpuitumo, Offia-oji. These communities are all within 4 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State: Afikpo North, Onicha, Izzi, and Abakaliki LGAs. The program focuses on improving the standard of living and dignity of the most vulnerable of communities especially women and children, and influencing policy changes at the Local and State levels. The key thematic areas are Governance, Education, Health, Women’s right, Agriculture and Human security in emergency.
